The Little Someone Who Waited for You
Read it aloud together tonight. When you reach the glowing fingerprint, let your child tap it. Then give your Dream Keeper a name, and make it official.
Once upon a bedtime, beyond the moon’s soft glow, there was a tiny place where sleepy wishes go.
And in that place, so quiet and so small, a little someone waited.
Not for the moon.
Not for the stars.
Not for the biggest wish of all.
This little someone was waiting for a person they had never met.
Someone with a laugh they hadn’t heard.
A name they didn’t know.
And a very special fingertip.
“I wonder,” whispered the little someone, “if tonight is the night.”
Far away, in a cozy room, a little book was opening.
Inside the book was a tiny, swirly mark.
It looked like a fingerprint.
But something was missing.
Something only you could give.
Parent and child: Place one fingertip gently on the glowing fingerprint. On a touch screen, tap it. On a computer, click it with your mouse.
“Tap, tap, tap. Is there a dream in there?”
For one tiny moment, everything was still.
Then—
Flicker. Twinkle. POP!
Two little eyes blinked open.
Tap or click the fingerprint three times.
“Oh!” squeaked the little creature.
“There you are!”
It looked at your fingertip.
Then at the little swirl on its tummy.
“Look! We match!”
It reached out its tiny arms and hugged your finger as tightly as it could.
Which wasn’t very tightly.
“You’re much bigger than I expected,” it giggled.
“But I think we fit just right.”
“I’m your Dream Keeper,” it said. “I waited for you before I knew your name. And now that you’re here, our story can begin.”
It tilted its head.
“But what will you call me?”
Pause here. Let your child choose a name for Dream Keeper. This will be their special name throughout the Fingertales series.
Dream Keeper tried the name aloud.
“Oh, I like that! That sounds exactly like me.”
Dream Keeper snuggled against your fingertip.
“I came from you. But I’m here for you,” it whispered.
“We belong together.”
“A story can end. But our friendship doesn’t have to.”
“There are so many adventures ahead of us… We’ll begin tomorrow.”
Then Dream Keeper closed its little eyes. And so can you.
